March on Mar-a-Lago

Saturday, February 4, 2017

Some photos from Palm Beach, where several thousand anti-Trump protestors gathered to march on Mar-a-Lago, Trump's winter retreat, on the night of the annual Red Cross Charity Ball.

After more than an hour of marching and chanting (We want a leader, not a creepy tweeter! Hey-hey, ho-ho, Donald Trump has got to go!) they were met near the estate by a small group of Trump supporters.  They lined the roads and jeered at the protestors: "Walk of shame! This is Trump Street! How much is Soros paying you!?" A man screaming into a microphone said Muslims murder and rape homos like them. I asked one of the Trump supporters about the FDNY tattoo on his arm. He said that he was at ground zero on 9/11, that his brother was killed in Afghanistan, that he is a strong supporter of the Second Amendment and wouldn't hesitate to shoot if attacked by a protestor. He lifted his shirt and showed me his gun. A woman standing next to him said Hillary and Bill Clinton eat babies and rape children.

As the trickle of anti-Trump protestors grew they began to confront his supporters. Someone punched the guy with the microphone screaming about Muslims. After an hour of rival chanting, singing and flag waving the crowd began to disperse.
